Want to feel heppie de peppie during the holidays?! Take a minute to read this message, because maybe you can help!
Hola de pola,
At the moment I´m staying in Granada with Diana. Diana is a Dutch woman who ended up in Granada helping the (street)kids who have a lot of problems (for example no parents and nobody who really wants to take care of them…). Most of the kids are between 6 and 14 years old.
She started her own charity called ´SUPPORT GRANADA KIDS´. The kids she supports are going to a shelter everyday, called ´CASA XALTEVA´.
At the moment she has set up a baseball and a basketball competition. A couple of weeks ago she also started to learn them how to swim in the big lake… This week we went to a swimming pool. It was their first time! The owner of the swimming pool let us in before the pool officially opened, so we had the whole pool to ourselfs!!!!
It´s good to see how the children enjoy the small things. Small things for us, but for them it´s hard to get. For example:
They get food every day but every day it´s the same. Last year Diana raised 60 dollars for Christmas. With this 60 dollars they made a really great Christmas dinner for 20 people!
Another example:
To go swimming in the pool it normally costs about 4 dollars per person. But because Diana had arranged something with the owner we could get in for 12 dollars in total, with 8 kids and 5 guiders! For most of us 16 dollars is nothing but in here that is a lot of money. So that´s why some people help and sponsor Diana to do these kind of activities.
I have talked a lot with Diana and I want to try to help out when I´m back in Holland (find sponsors, give some presentations at schools etc etc).. And what´s a better way to start, then first ask your family and friends to help out That´s why I want to ask you guys for a small donation (for example 1 euro/dollar already makes a lot of difference!).
There are severeal options to help out:
You can sponsor a baseball or basketball team. The new competition starts in January and to play they need to pay 14 dollars.Tho play they need balls. A box full of balls cost: 24 dollarsTo go swimming they need 12 dollars. For the swimming they need swimming shorts and bathing suits and floating things (don´t know the English word )
For a nice Christmas dinner they need 50 dollarsBut of course every little other donation is welcome! For more information check the following websites:
